Curriculum

Limpsfield Junior School Curriculum

Limpsfield Junior School ensures that it follows statutory guidance in regards to our curriculum. We recognise the importance of Reading, Writing and Maths as the backbone of a child’s education and work hard to ensure that our children achieve the highest standards that they can. We also believe in a broad and balanced curriculum recognising the importance of children receiving a rounded education. Our curriculum is topic based with many of our foundation subjects (history, geography, art, design and technology) taught around a theme. Science also remains a key element of our curriculum as does religious education. We believe in the importance of physical education and see sport as an important tool to teach our children about resilience and perseverance. Computing is another key element to the curriculum and we recognise its importance in equipping our children for the modern world.

Investigations, explanations and allowing children to develop a deeper understanding of their learning are also important elements of our curriculum. Children are expected to be able to explain their learning and justify their answers to the teacher and to other children which we believe deepens their understanding.

Phonics Scheme

We work in partnership with our main Nursery Infant feeder school to support the development of reading. Both schools use Read Write Inc as a strategy to support the development of early reading skills. Children who have not achieved the expected standard in the phonics assessment by the end of year 2, and those new to the school who are assessed as requiring early reading development, are supported through this scheme as well as other appropriate strategies.
